INSTRUCTIONS FOR VISA APPLICATION

The Consulate-General of the P. R. China in Vancouver only accepts applications from B. C. Province and Yukon Territory. The following documents should be submitted when applying for Chinese visas:

1. Passport valid at least for 6 months, with available blank pages for visa, and in good condition;
2. Completed visa application form, which could be obtained from the Chinese Consulate-General in person or be downloaded from the following website: www.box.net/shared/static/ia8aliz8ne.pdf

3. A recent 2X2 passport-size/style photo stapled or glued to the visa application form.
4. Relevant documents for different types of visa:
1) for business "F" visa(single or multiple): A: an official invitation from the competent Chinese government agencies or organizations, or companies that are authorized to request the Consulate-General to issue visa; B: photocopies of business license issued by the competent Chinese agency or contracts for those who have business or investments in China.
2) for tourist/family-visit "L" visa: valid passport, recent photo and completed visa application form.
Please be noted that the Consulate does not issue individual visas for tourists to Tibet. All applicants traveling to Tibet need to contact your local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group visa from the Tourist Bureau of Tibet at Fax: 011-86-891-34632 or 011-86-891-35588, Lhasa, Tibet, China or at Tel : 01-212- 867-0271, Fax: 01-212-599-2892 New York Office of China National Tourist Service, or from China National Tourist Office, Toronto at Tel. 416 599 6636 Fax: 416 599 6382.
3) for tourist/family-visit "L" multiple visa: A: photocopy of certificate of marriage for those whose spouses or parents are Chinese citizens; B: photocopy of the title deed for those who have purchased under their own name houses or real estates in China; C: an itinerary for those who will be on a sightseeing tour to China by a cruise boat.  
4) for student "X" visa(single entry only): A: Foreign Student Visa Application Form "JW201" or "JW202" issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education(copy needed); B: an enrollment letter from the receiving university in China(copy needed).
5) for employment/work "Z" visa (single entry only, no multiple entries): A: an Employment License issued by the Chinese Ministry of Labor. For applicants to be working in an academic institution, a confirmation issued by the Chinese State Bureau of Foreign Experts; B: an official invitation issued by a Chinese government agency.
6) for transit "G" visa: a valid visa of the country of destination; an connecting air ticket showing transit through China.
7) for journalist's "J-1" or "J-2" Visa, please first contact the Press Officer at 604-736-5188 ext. 8006.
8) for crew members of unscheduled or chartered flights of private air-crafts or vessels, an official letter from the carrier, along with a name list of the crew members. A landing/docking permit, however, must be obtained prior to departure.
5. Other documents deemed necessary by the Visa Officer.
6. Chinese visas generally have single entry, dual entries and multiple entries. Single entry visa is valid only for three months, and dual entries valid for six months and multiple entries valid for twelve months or twenty four months.

7. Types of regular visa fees(American citizen not included):
1 Entry(3mths valid), $50CAD; 2 Entries(6mths valid),$75CAD;  multiple Entries(6mth valid), $100CAD; 12 and 24-month multiple Entries, $150CAD.

From August 1st.2007,there will be adjustments to Chinese visa fee for U.S.passport holders, following as:

1.For an individual U.S.passport holder, any visa (single-entry,double-entry or multiple-entry )will be charged with 130 Canadian dollars.

2.The express and rush visa service fee will remain unchanged , which are 35 Canadian dollars and 50 Canadian dollar separately.  

It takes four business days to process visa applications. For special cases, rush service is offered, and the applicant is subject to pay an extra fee for it. The rush service fees are rated as follows: $50 Canadian Dollars per person for the same day service (application must be submitted before 11:00a.m.), $35 Canadian Dollars per person for the second or third day service.

Note: The Consulate-General does not accept cash, credit card and personal check. Please make payment by debit card, money order or company check.

Please be noted that the Chinese Consulate-General in Vancouver does not accept straight forward mail-in application. Those who wish to apply for Chinese visa by mail or courier need to send the applications to their clients or travel agencies in Vancouver, such as " CHINA TRAVEL SERVICE (CANADA)INC." , who will submit the applications to the Consulate for processing on behalf of the applicants.
